对于学生来说，英语听力是比较难于把握的考试项目。要取得好成绩，平时训练固然重要，而考试技巧也不可忽视。考听力有其独特的方法和技巧。听力主要考查以下五方面的能力：听清、听懂对话或短文内容的能力；理解对话或短文，分析、确认事实细节的能力；把握整体内容，进行概括总结，理解主旨大意的能力；根据材料内容或说话者的语气、语调，进行推理、判断的能力；根据材料内容或背景信息，推测相关具体内容的能力。在进行听力教学时，听前开展大脑风暴预热听力材料涉及的话题，激活词汇和语境。也可以进行相关话题预演。然后指导学生充分利用听录音前的时间和听各段对话之间的停顿时间，浏览题目和全部选项，预测对话或短文可能涉及的内容。有了思想准备，便可以有的放矢地听，集中精力去捕捉相关信息。听录音时指导学生抓住具体事实信息，如人物、事件、时间、地点、原因、方式、程度、数字等要素。在听力材料较长，干扰项较多的情况下，练习边听边记录。培养学生产生自己熟悉的符号来速记，对于人名和地名可记下首字母或汉字。同时，叮嘱学生保持良好的心态，以免因急躁而影响听后面的内容。在听录音时要注意转折、让步、否定和虚拟语气的特殊句型以及时态的转换，以便把握说话者的真正意图。听力测试很注重考查材料的中心思想，而中心思想一般是通过主题句来表现的。主题句往往出现在文章的起始部分，偶尔也出现在文章中间或结尾。听力测试结束后，查阅听力材料并朗读，培养语感，体会问题设计的角度。还可以摘录有用的短语和句型。
