晕예복은 주로 한복을 많히 입으며 머리감기삶은 창포 물에 머리를 감으면 머리카락이 잘 빠지지 않고， 윤기도 난다 하여， 단오날 창포물에 머리를 감던 풍속이다 아울러 창포 뿌리를 잘라내어 그것으로 비녀를 만들어 머리에 꽂기도 하였다단오선 선물하기단오가 되면 곧 더위가 시작 하므로， 단오날 임금이 직접 각 재상， 시종들에게 부채를 하사했던 풍속이다 그 부채의 종류는 승두선， 어두선， 사두선 합죽선 반죽선 외각선 내각선 등이 있다천중부적단오날에는 나쁜 귀신을 쫓기 위해 부적을 만들어 붙였다 이를 '단오부'， '천중부적'， '치우부적'이라고 한다익모초와 쑥 뜯기익모초와 쑥을 말려두었다가 약으로 쓰기 위해 단오날 익모초와 쑥을 뜯는 풍속이다 본래 익모초와 쑥은 한약방에서 많이 쓰이는 약초인데， 단오 무렵에 뜯은 익모초와 쑥이 약효가 많다는 데서 비롯된 풍속이다그네뛰기그네뛰기는 동아줄이나 밧줄을 큰 나뭇가지에 매고 그네를 뛰는 것이다 단오날에는 남녀노소를 막론하고 고운 옷을 입고 그네를 뛰었다 외출이 어려웠던 부녀자들이 단오날만큼은 밖에 나와 그네 뛰는 것이 허용되었으므로， 여자들이 단오날 즐겨 하였다고 한다 그네뛰기는 남쪽보다 북쪽 지방으로 갈 수록 성했다씨름씨름은 상고시대로부터 전해져 내려오는 남자들의 대표적인 놀이로서， 소년이나 장정들이 넓고 평평한 백사장이나 마당에서 모여 서로 힘과 슬기를 겨루는 것이다 서로 마주 보고 허리를 굽혀서 샅바를 잡아 상대방을 먼저 쓰러뜨리는 놀이이다 먼저 땅에 쓰러지거나 손， 무릎이 땅에 닿으면 지게 된다 상으로는 보통 황소를 주었다추석에 하는 일( 1 ) 벌초벌초는 무덤의 풀을 베어서 깨끗이 하는 것추석에 조상의 무덤에 가서 여름 동안 무성하게 자란 잡초를 베어 주는데 이를 벌초라 한다 옛날 조상의 묘를 풍수설에 의하여 명당에 쓰기 위하여 몇 십리 먼 곳에까지 가서 쓰는 수가 많았고， 또 묘를 쓴 다음 이사를 가는 경우도 있었기 때문에 묘가 집근처가 아니라 먼 곳에 있을 수도 있다 이런 경우에도 추석을 맞이하여서는 반드시 벌초를 하는 것이 자손의 효성의 표시와 도리로 여겼다 한가위 때에 성묘를 와서 벌초를 안했으면 보기에도 흉할 뿐만 아니라 불효의 자손을 두었거나 임자없는 묘라 해서 남의 웃음거리가 되었다( 2 ) 성묘조상의 무덤을 찾아가 돌보는 일 전묘·배분·배소례·상묘의라고도 한다 주자의 《가례》에， 성묘는 묘제의 한 부분으로 되어 있으나， 본래는 성묘에 제례의 절차가 합쳐져 묘제로 발전한 것으로 짐작된다 중국에서 성묘는 봄·가을에 묘를 손질하는 것으로 시작되었다가 당나라 이후에 봄의 성묘는 한식， 가을의 성묘는 10월 1일로 고정되었고， 그 뒤 제례의 형식이 첨가되어 묘제로 발전하였다 한국의 경우 대체로 16세기 중반까지는 성묘가 묘제와 관계없이 있었을 것으로 보이나， 《가례》의 영향에 따라 묘제의 형식으로 발전한 것으로 짐작된다 성묘의 형식은 분묘의 손질과 배례로 나누어지며， 주로 설·한식·추석에 행해진다 설에는 묵은해를 보내고 새해를 맞이했다는 인사를 조상의 묘에 고하며， 한식에는 겨울 동안 무너진 산소를 살펴보고， 추석에는 햇과일과 곡식을 조상께 바치는 의미를 가진다( 3 ) 차례추석 이른 아침에 사당을 모시고 있는 종가에 모여 고조까지의 차례를 지낸다 차례 지내는 절차가 설날과 다른 것은 흰떡국 대신 메[밥]를 쓰는 점이다 조상에 대한 추원 보본과 천신제를 겸하였기 때문에 제물은 신곡으로 만들어 진열된다 고조 이상의 윗대는 10월에 시제라 해서 묘에서 제사를 지낸다 추석에 먹는 음식1)송 편가장 먼저 나오는 햅쌀로 빚은 송편은 오려송편이라 하여 조상의 차례상과 묘소에 바쳤다 색에 따라 흰송편， 쑥송편， 송기송편으로 구분하고 소의 종류도 팥고물， 밤， 풋콩， 대추， 깨고물 등 여러 가지가 있다2)토란탕토란이 가장 많이 나오는 계절이므로 토란탕을 끓이거나 쇠고기를 섞어 맑은 국을 끓여 먹기도 한다3)화양적햇버섯， 도라지， 고기 등을 조미하여 볶아서 꼬챙이에 꿰어 만든 누름 적이다4)닭 찜햇닭에 살이 올라 한참 맛이 있는 계절이므로 집에서 키우던 닭을 다른 채소와 합하여 요리하였다5)햇 밤햇밤으로 밤밥， 다식， 율란， 밤초 등 여러 음식을 만들어 먹었다6)백주와 황계제사를 지내려면 술이 꼭 있어야 하는데， 추석술을 백주라고 하여 햅쌀로 빚기 때문에 신도주라고도 하였다 또 추석 음식 중 황계를 빼놓을 수 없다 봄에 깬 병아리를 기르면 추석때에는 성숙해져 잡아 먹기에 알맞으므로 명절에 맞추어 길렀다가 추석에 잡아 쓴다추석의 유래신라 유리왕이 왕녀 두 사람을 시켜 6부의 여자들을 반으로 나누어 7월 보름달부터 6부의 뜰에 모여 베를 짜는데， 을야(乙夜)에 이르러서야 헤어지곤 했다 이렇게 하길 8월 보름날까지 하여 그 성적을 평가하여 진 편에서 술과 음식을 마련하여 이긴 편을 대접했다 이 때 노래하고 춤추며 온갖 놀이를 다 했는데 이를 "가배"라 했다이 "가배"가 오늘날 「한가위」라는 뜻의 「가위」에 해당하는 그 당시 한자의 음차표기로， 가을을 초추， 중추， 종추 3달로 나누었을 때 음력 8월이 중간에 들어가는 가을의 가운데 즉 "중추"의 우리말 표기이다 즉， 「한가위」는 한"이라는 "크다"라는 뜻과 "가위"라는 가운데라는 뜻이 모여 8월의 한가운데에 있는 큰 날이라는 뜻이다
